Making a call

To make a call within the district

Dial the 4-digit extension.
  • Extensions are set up as in this format:
    1xxxElementary School
    2xxxMiddle School
    3xxxHigh School
    4xxxTransportation
    5xxxMaintenance
    6xxxAdministrative Services Building
    Classroom extensions are tyically the number of the building+Room Number
  • The full list of extensions should be provided by the administration shortly after the begining of the school year (after staff changes are settled down).
  • To make a call outside the district

    Classroom Phone:
    Dial [#]1,PIN,9,Area Code,Number
  • Your 4-digit pin is assigned to you by the Technology Department and can be used from any classroom phone. It's purpose is to:
  • Office Phone:
    Dial 9,Area Code,Number
  • As office lines do not require a PIN to call outside the district, office staff are not typically issued PINs. If you do require regular use of classroom phones to make calls outside the district, contact the Technology Department for a PIN.
  • To call the MISD, dial [#]8,number. This will use our foreign exchange line which in effect makes calling the MISD a local phone call.

    Receiving Calls

    Classroom Phones
    When the phone rings, pick it up. Duh
  • The Handsfree button can be used for speakerphone
  • Calls from people outside the district (parents, salespeople, etc) will not cause your phone to ring during school hours - the call will be automatically forwarded to voicemail so it will not interrupt class
  • calls recieved outside school hours will ring normally.
  • Calls from people within the district (office, other teachers) will ring as normal
  • Calls not answered will be forwarded to voicemail
  • Calls received while the phone is in use will be forwarded to voicemail
  • Each classroom phone has a ringer volume switch on the side of the cradle

  • Office Phones
    When you receive a call, the phone will ring and a button light will flash, designating which line is being called
  • You can either pick up the handset or press the Speaker button for handsfree
  • Calls received when the same line is in use will be forwarded to voicemail
  • Calls received on a different line will still ring before being forwarded to voicemail
  • Specific setups are typically customized to the individual - contact the Technology Department for any questions or programming changes

  • "Do Not Disturb" options may be set via your voicemail menus (see below)

    Voicemail Basics

    Classroom Phone:
    Orange light on phone will flash if you have any unchecked voicemail messages
    When light is flashing:
    Dial 571 and enter your voicemail password when prompted
    When light is not flashing or from another phone:
    Press [*] from any menu, followed by your extension and your voicemail password as prompted. The simplest way to get to a menu is to dial 5700
    Office Phone
    Each voicemail box assigned to your phone will have a seperate light that will flash if uncheck voicemail is present Retrieving Voicemail Remotely
    From another phone within the district
  • Dial 5700, [*], then enter your extension and password as prompted
  • From outside the district
  • Call any school's 727-xxxx number. When the greeting begins playing, press [*], then your extension and password as prompted
  • Voicemail - New Users (including those who have changed rooms)

  • To set up your voicemail for the first time, dial 5700. When the voice recording begins to play, prompting for a mailbox, dial [*]. You will then be prompted for your mailbox ID (your 4-digit phone extension) and your password (6789 for now).
  • The first time you acess your voicemail you will be walked though basic voicemail setup. Simply follow the prompts as you are guided through speaking your name and greeting.
  • At the end of the walkthough you will be prompted to assign a new voicemail password. You are encouraged to change this from default in order to prevent unauthorized access to your voicemail. NOTE: This password is completly seperate from your PIN used to call outside the district
  • Checking Voicemail

    Things to note:
  • Rule #1: When in doubt, listen to the voice prompts
  • [#] will typically exit to the previous menu unless otherwise specified
