PAY-TO-PARTICIPATE POLICY
Dear Parents and Student Athletes:
In the Richmond Community School District,
students participating in Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA)
sponsored sports are required to pay a fee of:
~ $100.00 fee for each sport
participating at the high school level ($50 for bowling)
~ $ 80.00 fee for each sport
participating at the middle school level
In order for the student athlete to be eligible
to participate in competitions, the fee must be turned into the athletic office
within one week of teams being selected. If at all possible, please do not
pay with cash. Make this payment with a check or money order, made out to
Richmond Community Schools.
Please note the student name and sport on the
checks.
(There will be a fee of $15.00 for
checks that are returned to us by the bank.)
For high school student athletes, I
will arrange with each teams coach a time when I can collect payments, student
athletes will be notified of the collection day and time in advance. Payments
can also be made at the athletic office located at the south end
of the main hall near the high school gymnasium. Middle school student athletes
are to make payments with the middle school athletic coordinator, Becky Borwick.
***New Policy/Procedures for Working Off Pay-to-Participate Fee***
Due to the recent budget cuts, we are
only allowed to have students/parents work off half of their
pay-to-participate fee. If you intend to work off this fee, we must know at the
time of payment.
High School Work
Offs($ 100.00 fee):
1. Submit one check for $ 50.00,
include student name and sport…this check will be cashed.
2.
Submit a second check for $ 50.00, write HOLD, student name and
sport on the check.
This
check will be held and returned at the end of the sports season if work off
has been completed.(HS 5 events)
**If you are submitting checks
for more than one HIGH school student/athlete:
You can certainly combine their fees, therefore,
still turning in only 2 checks.
For example: paying for two
HS students
-the 1st check for two HS students
will be for $100.00
-the 2nd
check, to be held and returned, will be for $100.00
Middle School Work Offs($
80.00 fee):
The
procedure for middle school is exactly the same except the check amounts will be
$40.00 to be cashed and $40.00 to be held and returned after work off.(MS 4
events)
**If you are submitting checks for more
than one MIDDLE school student/athlete:
You can certainly combine their fees, therefore,
still turning in only 2 checks.
(Please keep MS and HS
payments on separate sets of checks if paying for siblings.)
continued….
There are opportunities to work off the
pay-to-participate fee. However, if you choose to work off the fee you still
must make a full payment at the beginning of the season. Your check will be held
and not cashed until you have fulfilled your working obligations.
Here’s how it works:
There are various athletic duties that can be
done to work off the payment. For example, ticket takers, crowd control,
concession workers, clock operators, announcing, etc… Each event worked counts
as a $10.00 credit. If you work five events (for hs work off) or four events
(for ms work off), your obligation is completed and your check will be returned
at the end of the season. Once again, if you intend to work off this fee, we
must know at the time of payment.
** We will make every effort to contact all
persons who state on their check that they want to work off half of the fee. If
you are not contacted within a week or two after you turn in your checks, it is
your responsibility to contact the athletic office to set up work off dates.
You will be given a schedule of the dates for
working and will be called prior to the event for confirmation.
Let’s have a great season!
Sincerely,
Keith Bartels
